1931 Reo Royale - $23,750 - Heath, TX -

FOR SALE:   1931 REO ROYALE VICTORIA

We purchased this "RARE" 1931 REO ROYALE VICTORIA in 1982 from South America.  (SEE VIDEO)  We brought it home, a little gas and a new battery, the car fired right up.  We drove it around for a little while and then started a "frame up " restoration.  After starting a family, the restoration was put on hold.  All of the paint has been stripped and primered.  The original lead work is in good shape.  The seats have been re-upolstered over a period of years (3 layers of covering) so there is an original pattern to follow.  Most of the body wood has been faithfully reproduced by a master craftsman, the original wood is still intact and available.  The serial number indicates it to be a very early model.  Research shows this car to be one of five remaining Victorias  The car is basically 97% complete, all sthe small parts have been marked and boxed.  There is a treasure trove of EXTRAS!

EXTRAS:
     An engine and transmission
     A pair of running boards
     Brand new head gasket
A complete set of new intake/exhaust and other gaskets
Headlights (Originals were converted to sealed beam) but the shells and bezels are still good
Tail lights and stantions (complete with the correct lenses both clear and red
An assortment of literature, owners manual, lube charts, paint chips and most importantly a copy of the shop manual for the Royale.
This manual is detailed with drawings, cut away views, directions and specifications.

Price: $23,750.     OBO

The vehicle is located at our Seattle home.  We a currently living at our Dallas house but travel back and fourth often.

1913 Reo - $32,000 - Elk Grove Village, IL -

1913 Reo "The Fifth" Roadster - a very original car that has never been restored.  Even has original tool kit!  Eligible for Historic Preservation of Original Features (HPOF), this very special "barn-find" is ready to drive and use as-is.

The car is considered by REO experts to be a “Fall Series” 1913.  It seems that REO made a running change during their 1913 model year to electric start and electric lighting.  Accordingly, I have found it necessary to refer to both the 1913 and the 1914 REO Owner’s Manuals (there may be a 1913 Edition that covers the features of this car however; I have not found one).  The chassis and engine numbers are all correct for 1913 model year.

As you will see from the photos the car is essentially ready to tour as I have gone through all critical elements of the car including the following:

  • New wiring throughout
  • Rebuild Generator / Distributor
  • Clean and check radiator
  • New hoses
  • New leather fan belt
  • Rebuilt water-pump
  • Upgraded connecting rod bolts
  • Cleaned and coated gas tank
  • Cleaned carburetor
  • New fluids in transmission and differential

I took the car to Hershey intending to show it for HPOF designation and then take it on the Hershey Hangover Tour – the rain soured me and I didn’t hang around for the show or the tour but, the car is ready to go.

Here are the items that should be considered for aggressive touring:

  • Tires are very hard – really should be replaced as I suspect that once the car is really driven, the tubes may come apart.
  • The top is shot – looks cool but not practical for touring

The trunk is loaded with some spare parts including:

  • Original 1913 Generator / Distributor
  • The car came with the 1915 style installed and I have restored that and continue to run the car on the later generator
  • Original tail lamp
  • Not installed because I don’t have the bracket – probably need to make one or use one that is slightly different from original.
  • Spare carburetor and manifold
  • The original rod bolts
  • Some other spare parts that came with the car when I got it.

This car came out of Lewiston, ID.  As the story was relayed to me – the car was driven in 1962 and the owner banged the fender up when driving it into or out of the garage.  After that experience, the car just sat and collected dust.  The right front fender has significant evidence of the mishap – I have not touched the fender as I feel that it is part of the car’s history story.  I am led to understand that I am the 3rd owner of the car.

Everything that we have done on the car is with a mindset of making the car run reliably and safely while retaining its originality.  The car does indeed run great and is very fast and good handling with great brakes due to its light weight.

As an added benefit – the car is extremely comfortable.  I am 6’7” and I find this car to be the roomiest brass-era car I have ever experienced.  My legs are not cramped and there are no challenges operating the gear lever.

I am located very close to O’Hare airport and would be happy to pick you up if you are interested in coming in to take a look at the car.

Please don’t hesitate to call me at any time with any questions or additional information you would like about the car.

REO 1948 Speedwagon D19XA,

245 Cubic Inch Inline Six.

The Classic Car Gallery is proud to offer this excellent 1948 REO D19XA Speedwagon. This beautiful truck is one of only about 200 built in 1948 and is believed to be one of only 20 in existence today! Ransom Eli Olds, of Oldsmobile fame, founded REO in 1904. Although REO built some very notable passenger cars, they were best known for their heavy-duty trucks, which became the sole focus of the company during the 1930’s. Their Speedwagon line of trucks were well known for their amazing utility. This 1948 Speedwagon is powered by the famed REO Gold Crown 245 CI inline-6 that allows for “Passenger car speed, economy and flexibility in the field.” Period REO advertisement. Its Red paint shows wonderfully, with special touches such as gold pin striping on the center of the imposing grill. The utilitarian interior and black bench seat are likewise in very nice condition. The bed, made of alternating wood and steel slats, adds to the unique character of this vintage truck. This rare REO has tremendous presence, whether it is on the road or at a show.

1927 Reo - $39,500 - St. Louis, MO - In 1927 the town of Washburn Illinois was looking to acquire its first motorized fire vehicle and in its search contracted with the Obenchain-Boyer Company of Logansport Indiana to build up an apparatus to its specifications on a six-cylinder Reo Speed Wagon chassis. The rig had a Hale pump capable of 400 gallons per minute two 40-gallon chemical tanks and 150 feet of chemical hose. It spent twenty years in service with the Washburn Community Fire Department and many more under the department’s care. It was declared surplus in the 1970s and used by its next owner primarily for parades before going into long-term storage. The rig was then brought to the attention of a local group dedicated to the preservation of motorized fire vehicles in 2009 and underwent a full thorough restoration that is still fresh and beautiful. This fascinating Reo bodied by Boyer is a fine usable and fun vehicle complete with all the necessary equipment expected of an antique fire truck. Finished in the appropriate shade of red with gold leaf script and black upholstery it is loaded with a siren bell spotlights axes tools fire extinguishers and even a broom. It has all the charm and presence that make it perfect for parades and display but also is compact enough to fit in a normal garage space. It has been used sparingly since its restoration was completed. From the gleaming paint and wide array of equipment to the attractively detailed engine bay all is gorgeous and it runs and drives wonderfully. Thanks to its beautiful condition and open cab layout this lovely and genuine classic fire truck would be a star at either parade or show.
